ExpectationsBefore the trip to Italy, I didn’t really know what to expect! I was scared to leave the country for a week, especially since I had never previously travelled without my parents. I thought that I would feel awkward because I wasn’t very close friends with all the people there, but as it turns out, I made really close friendships with a lot of the students who went!
From an educational standpoint, I expected to learn more about basic Italian culture and be exposed to historically significant buildings, churches, and other landmarks. I also expected to learn some of the language of the country and take some of that knowledge back to the United States. I really wanted to learn the language and learn about the people who live there. Over the trip, I was able to build relationships with students that I hadn’t gotten a chance to get to know before, who I now call some of my best friends! I also got to meet various people who helped us on our tour, like Jerard the Tourguide, our bus driver Joseppe and more! I thought that I would benefit from being out of the country for the first time without my parents and from the exposure to culture outside of the U.S! |
